Call for Papers of the psychology and public opinion section for the Session at the IAMCR conference in Taiwan of August, 2005

 

The psychology and public opinion section plans four types of sessions at the Taiwan Conference of IAMCR in July 2004. The following text describes them shortly and is to be understood as a Call for Papers:

  • First, a thematically open session devoted to papers which refer to the research area of the section, “psychology and public opinion”, and which are occupied with the central conference theme “ Communication and Disasters ”. Here, a lot of topics will have a place.
  • Second -Having in mind the successful and thought provoking sessions in Porto Alegere and the willingness of the participant to continue and future develop that work on “Erving Goffman and the Media”. We would like to encourage in Taiwan the presentations of special papers and reports on empirical research connecting Goffmans' theoretical frameworks to empirical data and analysis.
  • Third, Media Literacies and participation in the public sphere.
    The interaction between media literacies, media consumption and paticipation in the public shphere as a sine qua non for democratic processes has been one of the main focusses of media reserch. Its focus shfted from reading books and newspapaers to radio and television and latley the computer and the Internet. . The focus of the sessions and the debate we would like to create will be on the interrelations between media literacies, media consumption and the construction of public sphere in which public opinion can develop and democratic processes flourish .
  • Fourth the Section calls for papers based on empirical research on the Interrelations between Various types of Families and the changing Media of today. The main ides is to revisit the ways in which families with access to multi-channel and new media technologies integrate her media within the functioning of the family system as a social institution.

Answers to this call should consist in an English abstract of 500 words about the planned presentation, Title of The Presentation, Name, Address and details of affiliation of the persons. Deadline will be as published in the newsletter for all sections

Proposals will be reviewed by the two heads of section and by further specialists, named by the heads. All authors will get their answer on the date published in this newsletter for all sections

If a proposal is accepted, the sender must fulfil two things. First, she or he must send a full paper until the date published in this newsletter for all sections.. Second, she or he must register her or himself for participation on the conference site as will be published.

All abstracts (and later all full papers) should be sent by e-mail to the local organizers of the conference, and in addition to the Section heads friedrich.krotz@uni-erfurt.de and hnossek@colman.ac.il
